The new paradigm of Breast Surgery is an approach from a "health- and cancer- perspective" but always in an aesthetic manner. In this vein Breast Surgery is always "esthetic" surgery from the beginning.

The subspecialty of oncoplastic breast surgery meets the above demand of the translation of clinically or screen detected lesions into local control, cure, function and cosmesis.

Boarding of the fellowship is intended for more advanced surgeons and not for beginners. The international MHD Cancer Center Fellowship training program bridges the current gap for certified/ experienced physicians (surgeons, gynecologists., plastic surgeons) between desirable services and currently available posts falling short of EUSOMA standards which breast centers in Europe and worldwide should fulfill by providing training options for physician multipliers/ movers interested in acquiring sufficient skills and practice to establish high level breast centers in their local institutional and health care system and to provide: internationally accepted consultant specialized breast surgeons.
Training options are based on live surgery teaching covering: Oncologic Surgery/ Plastic & Esthetic Surgery/ deep perception of Oncoplastic Surgery and Conservative Mastectomy/ Ultrasound for Breast Surgeons/ Radiology/ Nuclear Medicine/ Pathology/ Systemic Therapy/ Radiotherapy and others.
The Program includes specialty training in stress management, teamwork and patients communicaton. Dealing also with benign lesions and the role of the specialized breast surgeon as a consultant specialist who is part of a multidisciplinary team at various institutions and who would need the professional competence and the authority to reach binding clinical decisions during multidisciplinary conferences.
Formal requirements and suggestions: The fellow would have to document his/her medical licensure and previous specialist training and experience. The fellow should have already completed specialty training or be near completion. He / she should have completed a minimum of one year of specialty breast training at a unit recognized by the fellowship program. At the current stage, the fellow should be on leave of absence from his/her current position. He or she should have a guaranteed post as a specialist in charge of case management at a specialized unit subsequent to completion of the fellowship. He/ she should have a commitment of his unit or should demonstrate another source of income for the duration of the planned stay abroad. If from outside the EC, the fellow should demonstrate ready access to a visa permitting at least 1 to 3  months training in the host country. The training centre provides or assists in finding adequate room and board for fellows. The fellow should demonstrate language proficiency in English or German to attend a fellowship program.
Application modalities: The Fellowship is self-funded. The fellow has not to pay any tuition to the facility and there is no remuneration to the fellows from the MHD. For non Europeanphysicians, holding a personal licence in surgery, plastic surgery or gynecology the fellowship training is based on intensive bed-side teaching, clinical and surgical observation of patient management, live surgeries, MDM-s and lectures.  Physicians holding an European licence in their specialty are allowed from the government to participate also actively in some interventions.
Both options of intensive exchange of knowledge in all fields of breast surgery, including tertiary cases, are given according to EUSOMA guidelines on the standards for the training of health professionals dealing with breast cancer and are intended to preparing for the UEMS Examination in Breast Surgery.
